Rea Joan M. Atienza is a mathematics educator, researcher, and higher education professional whose career has been dedicated to advancing mathematics and science education through teaching, research, and academic service. With nearly two decades of experience in higher education, she has established herself as an advocate of research-informed instruction, curriculum development, and the continuous improvement of mathematics education.

Ms. Atienza earned her Bachelor of Science in Physics for Teachers from the Philippine Normal University, where she graduated cum laude. She also completed a Master in Physics and the academic requirements for a Master of Science in Teaching Mathematics at De La Salle University. She is currently pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy in Mathematics Education at the University of the Philippines Open University, further strengthening her expertise in mathematics pedagogy, educational research, and curriculum innovation.

She currently serves as an Assistant Professor at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines–Santa Rosa Campus, where she teaches mathematics and science courses while actively mentoring undergraduate researchers. Throughout her academic career, she has served as a research adviser and research panelist for numerous undergraduate studies, guiding students in research design, data analysis, and scholarly writing. Her longstanding involvement in research mentoring reflects her commitment to developing a strong culture of inquiry and academic excellence among future educators and professionals.

As a researcher, Ms. Atienza focuses on mathematics education, science education, curriculum alignment, and student learning outcomes. She presented her research, Comparative Analysis of the Science Competencies of K–12 and Non-K–12 Graduates in Chemistry and Physics Classes, during the International Research Conference on Higher Education (IRCHE) in 2021, contributing to scholarly discussions on educational transitions and curriculum effectiveness. Her research interests continue to center on improving teaching practices and strengthening learners' competencies through evidence-based educational strategies.

Beyond research production, Ms. Atienza actively participates in professional development programs on research ethics, scholarly publication, statistical analysis, extension services, curriculum enhancement, and research funding. She has completed numerous capability-building programs in research methodology, publication, and academic quality assurance, demonstrating her commitment to continuous learning and research excellence.
