Prof. Aprilyn Encina Calvario is a language educator, applied linguistics scholar, and research professional whose career has been devoted to advancing English language education, applied linguistics, and research development in higher education. With more than two decades of experience in teaching, academic research, and faculty development, she has established herself as a dedicated advocate of evidence-based instruction and scholarly excellence.

She earned her Bachelor of Science in Education major in English and Literature from the University of the Philippines Diliman and completed her Master of Arts in Educational Administration with specialization in Language Teaching at the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila. She is currently completing her dissertation for the Doctor of Philosophy in Applied Linguistics at De La Salle University, further strengthening her expertise in language education, second language acquisition, and applied linguistic research.

Prof. Calvario currently serves as a Faculty Researcher at the Research Management Office of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines–Santa Rosa Campus, where she supports institutional research initiatives, faculty development, and the promotion of scholarly productivity. Prior to this role, she spent more than a decade as a full-time faculty member at the same institution and previously taught at several higher education institutions, including Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila, Far Eastern University, and Mapúa Institute of Technology. Throughout her academic career, she has taught courses in research, language acquisition and learning, literary criticism, creative writing, world literature, and purposive communication while mentoring students in academic research and scholarly writing.

As an active researcher, Prof. Calvario's scholarly interests include applied linguistics, second language acquisition, language learning strategies, English language proficiency, language pedagogy, and teacher development. Her research has been presented at national and international conferences, including the Cambodia TESOL Conference (CamTESOL), the International Research Conference on Higher Education (IRCHE), the Higher Education Research Forum, and the Linguistic Society of the Philippines National Conference. Her studies have explored language learning motivation, self-regulated learning, classroom pedagogy, English language proficiency, and the teaching of English grammar, contributing to the advancement of research-based language instruction.

Beyond research publication, Prof. Calvario has actively supported the research community through her work as a faculty researcher, thesis editor, manuscript reviewer, and research mentor. She continues to guide faculty members and students in conducting rigorous academic research while promoting quality scholarly writing and ethical research practices. Her research contributions were recognized when her study on modality in English college textbooks was selected as a finalist during the Polytechnic University of the Philippines' Gawad Tuklas research competition.

Through her extensive experience in research management, language education, and applied linguistics, Prof. Calvario continues to champion research excellence and academic innovation. Her commitment to advancing scholarship, mentoring researchers, and strengthening research culture reflects her dedication to producing meaningful contributions to English language education and higher education research.
